"Every month, millions of women prepare for "cramp day." We keep a hot water bottle handy, stock up on over-the-counter painkillers, and maybe cancel our evening plans. But for some, the pain isn't just an annoyance—it’s a disruptive, debilitating force that takes over their entire life."
Dysmenorrhea, or painful menstruation, is common. In its "normal" form, it’s caused by prostaglandins—chemicals that make your uterus contract to shed its lining. However, when pain becomes severe or chronic, it often indicates something else is happening beneath the surface. One of the primary suspects is Endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it.
The hallmark of Endometriosis is that it doesn't follow the "rules" of standard period pain. While typical cramps might last for the first day or two of bleeding, Endometriosis pain often starts before the period begins and can linger long after it ends. It can also cause pain during other times of the month, such as during ovulation or bowel movements.
The biggest challenge with Endometriosis is that it is often invisible and frequently normalized. Women are often told their pain is simply "part of being a woman," which leads to years of silent suffering.

- Painful Bowel Movements or Urination Discomfort during these activities, particularly during your period.
